Impasto (2021)
Instrumentation: orchestra
About the Piece:
impasto is for orchestra. The title impasto takes the idea of a painting technique where paint is laid on and on, creating very thick layers, and when dry, the brush strokes become visible and so alive out of the canvas. Technically, the “paste” and “mixture” meaning is also employed in this piece, using distinctive rhythmic and harmonic layers to paint and expand the sonority to an extreme extent. The generating process of adjusting music density is also a crucial variant.
